My very own website!!! Yikes!

Trying to be me again!

Now that I have stopped breastfeeding Zach during the day I can start to reclaim my own identity. It isn’t selfish (I hope!) to want to be Laura sometimes rather than Mummy. I will never be the same person I was before children, nor would I want to be. But being me again as a distinct person is essential for my children to see, to value me as a person in my own right rather than just my role in their lives.

  1. As an older mum, one of the things I found hardest was giving up the life (and who I had been) when having my kids. I was just too selfish and set in my ways, I guess. But it’s so important to give yourself that “me” time and make a new version of you, as you say, you will never be the old Laura again!

  2. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said …being me again as a distinct person is essential for my children to see, to value me as a person in my own right … Very very true! Thank you for linking up to #ablogginggoodtime

  3. Definitely not selfish to want to be you and not just Mummy. I think it’s important to reclaim our own identity and have some time for ourselves. I remember loving being able to get into one-layer tops again once I stopped breastfeeding. So true too that you’ll never completely be the person you were before – just a different version of that person, that’s all. #ablogginggoodtime

  4. It is so important to take some time for yourself. I personally don’t think I can be the best version of myself and the best mother I can be if I don’t take some time to myself and instead let myself burn out. I love how I’ve evolved as a person since becoming a mother, but it can be difficult ‘finding’ yourself’ again.
